Obituary.
It is our painful duty to record the death, on the 27th inst., in his fifty-second year, of Mr. James Lindsay, for some years a most, if not the most, efficient member of the Municipal Council of Esquesing. Indeed, as far as it is possible for human ken to scan the workings of Providence, his death at this comparatively early age may fairly be traced to his keen sense of public duty. Early in the spring, on some morning before the meeting of Council, in examining some damaged bridge he got his feet wet, and sat at the board the rest of the day attending his duties, without considering the danger to his health. He has been ailing and complaining ever since of what he thought a kind of ague, which at last culminated in in inflammation of the brain. For many years Mr. Lindsay held a commission as J. P.; but his conciliatory disposition leading him to discourage litigation among neighbors, few cases ever went up from him for further adjudication. As a public servant and a kind neighbor, to all appearance it will not be easy to "look upon his like again;" and his loss will be felt, and is sincerely regretted by every one who knew him. He leaves a family of eight children and their mother. It is truly touching to witness their grief; for he was a most affectionate husband and father, and by both precept and example faithfully and constantly inculcated the great precepts of Christianity, and died in the full hope of a glorious re-union, never to part. - COM.
