OBITUARY. It is our melancholy duty to chronicle the death of one of the pioneer settlers of this County - Mr. James Lindsay, sr., who departed this life on Sunday morning, 23rd ult., after a few hours illness, at the ripe old age of eighty years. The deceased was a native of Tyrone, Ireland, and emigrated to Canada in the year 1818, coming at once to Trafalgar, when he settled on the farm near Hornby, where he resided until the day of death. The country at that time was a mere wilderness, and the settlers but few and widely separated - and in the early days Mr. Lindsay's house was used as a place of worship, where the neighbors used whenever possible to meet to hear the old, old story and worship the God of their fathers. The deceased shortly after settling here joined the Wesleyan Methodist Church, of which during the remainder of his life he continued a consistent member. He had a large family, most of whom are settled near Hornby, and was beloved and respected by a large circle of friends and neighbors. His end was peace, and his closing hours were cheered by the consciousness of victory over Death and the Grave. - COM.
